2026 NSC Fall Field Tour

Bulkley Valley • Smithers • Hazelton / Kispiox • Northwest BC

September 14–15, 2026

The Northern Silviculture Committee and tour organizers are pleased to announce that the 2026 NSC Fall Field Tourwill take place in the beautiful, ecologically and culturally diverse forested landscapes of the Bulkley Valley, including the Smithers and Hazelton / Kispiox areas of northwest British Columbia. This two-day field tour will bring participants into a range of working, research, and forest management settings to explore current silvicultural practices, long-term research, operational challenges, and future opportunities for forest stewardship in the region.

Date Creek Research Forest and related locations in the Kispiox / Hazelton area.

September 15, 2026
NSC tour stops in the Smithers, BC area.

Tour Topics Will Include

  • Participants can expect a wide range of field-based discussions, including:

  • Innovative silvicultural systems and partial-cutting approaches.

  • Retaining Old Forest values and character within managed stands.

  • Silvicultural strategies that reflect First Nations goals and values.

  • Insights from long-term silvicultural and ecological research.

  • Designing development pathways for different objectives.

  • Challenges for policy and operational implementation.

  • And more.
